About Us

Financial Services is a department within the Chief Financial Officer portfolio, along with Procurement Services and Risk Management and Insurance. The academic goals and objectives of the University are supported through excellent financial management, and effective and appropriate use of all financial resources (operating, research, trust and capital funds). The University’s decentralized management model places financial management responsibility within every division of the University as well as within Financial Services. The major long-term priorities for our office are:

  • to meet legislative, regulatory and reporting requirements for financial activities;
  • to direct and manage key activities with the external financial community on behalf of the University (e.g. banking, debt);
  • to efficiently and effectively deliver core services to divisions that, for internal control and other reasons, must be provided centrally (e.g. cheque production, student fees).

Financial services concentrates on standard setting through issuance of policies and procedures, on provision of professional consultation, advice and training and on broad-based financial services and initiatives for the University as a whole, all within the context of high legal, ethical and professional standards.
